REVISED Proposed District Calendar - 2019-2020

The revised (2/11/19) draft calendar reflected HERE was developed by a committee of Pennsbury stakeholders, including parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators, with School Board input. Please note the bolded changes.

This will remain posted here for the public to review prior to the Board’s consideration for its approval at the public meeting scheduled for February 21st.

Please note the following aspects of this draft calendar:

  1. Continuing with the practice that began seven years ago, the start of the school year will occur before Labor Day to maximize instructional time prior to the administration of the Keystone Exams and the state assessments (PSSA).

  2. The first day of school for grades 1-5, 6 and 9 is Wednesday, August 28th. All students in grades 1-12 will report to school on Thursday, August 29th.

  3. Orientation will be held for Kindergarten students on Wednesday, August 28th. Students will be split into two groups, with half reporting on August 29th and the other half reporting on August 30th. Building principals will communicate the staggered schedule for Kindergarten students to families during the summer months.

  4. The first day for teachers is Monday, August 26th.

  5. The state mandates a minimum of 180 student days per academic year. This calendar includes 181 days, so the first emergency school closing that occurs during the year will not need to be made up.

  6. Primary Election Day is April 28th, not the traditional third Tuesday in May, because 2020 is a Presidential election year.

  7. Schools will be closed in recognition of Rosh Hashanah on Monday, September 30th and Tuesday, October 1st.

  8. The PSSA testing dates for 2020 are as follows: April 20-24 - ELA; April 27-May 8 - Math, Science, and make-ups.

  9. PHS commencement is tentatively set for Wednesday, June 10, 2020.

  1. Last Student Day is June 15, 2020.

  1. Please note that future calendars will consider the Indian holiday of Diwali when it falls on a weekday.
