Head Injury Presentation
Mandatory Concussion Awareness Program and Impact Testing-February 26, 2014
PA passed legislation effective July 1, 2012 requiring all student-athletes to receive concussion and head injury information prior to the start of their season. Additionally, most student-athletes will also be tested using Impact. This will be a baseline test to be used if the athlete sustains a head injury during the season. We have been using this test for the past two years and it will be expanded this year. We have partnered with St Mary Hospital and Bucks County IU to provide a Powerpoint presentation and help administer the Impact testing.
All prospective Spring athletes and all coaches are required to report to Keller Hall on Wednesday February 26 at 3:00 pm.
After the program has ended, ALL Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, as well as Baseball catchers and first basemen, Softball catchers and first basemen will take the Impact test. NOTE: We are not testing Boys Volleyball, Outdoor Track, Boys Tennis or Baseball/Softball players who do not play catcher or first base this year.
Coaches must be present with their teams for both the test and the presentation. Coaches will act as room proctors during the Impact testing. All coaches are also required by law to complete a head injury recognition test prior to beginning practice on March 3. No student may try out or begin practice without having been to this presentation. It is imperative that you inform your teams of this so they can schedule their time to be present on March 4. Anyone who is not present will be required to view a makeup session at a later date. Students who viewed the program prior to participating in a Fall or Winter sport are not required to attend this session.
Parents are recommended to attend and the community is invited to attend this presentation.
