Strategic Planning

MISSION  

The Pennsbury School District, a student-centered learning community, will prepare all students to achieve their highest potential and to demonstrate mastery of skills and talents necessary for life in a global society by providing a diverse educational program with the involvement and support of families and community.

BELIEFS

We believe that:

  • All people can learn;
  • All people possess inherent worth and dignity;
  • Individuals are responsible for their actions;
  • Learning is a life long process;
  • The community is responsible to all of its members, and each member is responsible to the community;
  • People flourish in a safe, secure environment;
  • Every individual deserves the opportunity to develop his or her talents and potential.

OBJECTIVES

  • All students will successfully meet or exceed Pennsbury's standards for graduation.
  • All students will demonstrate the ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • All students will demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • All students will demonstrate responsible citizenship.

POLICIES

  • Nothing will take precedence over the instructional process.
  • We will practice a participatory management style at every level of the district.
  • We will practice a collaborative style of decision-making.
  • We will not tolerate any form of prejudicial discrimination

Develop a Data Culture
To ensure student success, we will develop a “data culture” which makes the collection, analysis and use of data integral to the everyday work of students, teachers and administrators

  • Create a committee to establish consistent practices and procedures that will define the framework for data collection, analysis, integration and assessment (CAIA)
  • Provide Staff Development teaching CAIA principles
  • Foster a shared responsibility for student achievement through the meaningful understanding and use of data
  • Utilize content specific specialists to promote and monitor accountability as it pertains to data-driven decision making

Enrich Relationships
To ensure student success, we will recognize, develop and maintain collaborations and communications that strengthen relationships among all internal and external stakeholder
groups.

  • Strengthen and sustain relationships with staff - Create multiple opportunities for interaction inclusive of all employees to strengthen and sustain relationships
  • Strengthen and sustain relationships with students - Create opportunities for community service to become part of each student’s secondary experience
  • Strengthen and sustain relationships with parents – Increase the effectiveness of home/school communication channels to inform and involve parents at elementary, middle and high school levels
  • Strengthen and sustain relationships with community members – Create authentic opportunities for two way communication between the Pennsbury School District and all community members
  • Strengthen and sustain relationships with partners – Establish a “Community Partnership Expo” to promote increased opportunities among staff and partners
  • Strengthen and sustain relationships with elected officials – Expand means of communication between school district and all elected officials, residents, and staff in a consistent manner
  • Strengthen and sustain relationships with community agencies – Provide on-site access to human service agencies and programs
  • Collaborate with other districts / educational communities – Establish a key communicators program involving school districts / educational communities and all other stakeholders to foster better understanding and gain support for Pennsbury School District needs
  • Build leadership capacity within the organization (students, teachers, administration, and support staff

Promote Student Life
To ensure student success, we will explore every opportunity to positively impact the affective domain of each student’s life

  • Foster a personalized learning environment by getting the community more involved in the schools
  • Foster a personalized learning environment by developing and implementing a teacher-student advisory program
  • Foster a personalized learning environment in the classroom by increasing opportunities for active involvement
  • Foster a personalized learning environment by increasing the awareness of opportunities for social interaction
  • Foster opportunities for students to express and represent themselves by developing a student forum
  • Foster opportunities for students to express and represent themselves through oral and written expressions
  • Promote health and wellness in all students by establishing good standards that foster a healthy lifestyle
  • Foster a culture of respect by promoting tolerance and understanding of diversity by establishing a diversity taskforce
  • Foster a culture of respect by promoting tolerance and understanding of diversity by continuing the “Respect Zone” initiative

Use Technology
To ensure student success, we will integrate technology into every aspect of the school community to enhance personal productivity and improve student learning

  • Improve communications among all district stakeholders
  • Ensure coordination of district technology programs
  • Ensure that all district stakeholders will have the necessary technology to access global learning activities within the classroom and to improve the flow of information
  • Implement a program where the stakeholders have access to appropriate information derived from the Data Driven Decision making process
  • Ensure that all stakeholders will have access to the latest technology
  • Extend the learning environment to off school sites
  • Ensure that Professional Development opportunities will be available for new and existing technology initiative

Examine Resource Allocation
To ensure student success, we will plan and allocate resources, (people's time, facilities and money) in order to ensure that available resources are used in a coordinated manner to support the most educationally valuable uses of these resources

  • Establish a Pennsbury Alumni Association for the purposes of tradition, pride, and financial support
  • Maintain and aggressively seek Federal, State, Local and Foundation grants for the school district
  • Maintain and expand current corporate partnerships to provide financial support for non-public funded projects
  • Develop a Pennsbury Political Action Committee to establish a relationship with local legislators and monitor legislation that could affect the Pennsbury School District
  • Evaluate school-based programs to determine best staff utilization
  • Investigate the currently outsourced educational programs and return them to the district when feasible and appropriate
  • Develop and maintain financial planning models to forecast revenue, expenses, and risk
  • Continue Capital investment in district facilities
  • Update building space utilization study as needed
  • Install computerized maintenance management system to provide resource for data-driven decisions
