Afton Students Share Seasonal Joy Through Community Outreach

Fourth graders taught by Coleen Jones and Heather Kirk at Afton Elementary School completed a service project recently to help bring joy to seniors in area assisted-living communities. Each child wrote a seasonal story, and then decorated a pumpkin as one of the main characters from the narrative. "Afton parents generously donated all of the supplies needed for this project," said Ms. Jones. "The fourth graders also helped their kindergarten buddies create whimsical pumpkins to add to the donation 'patch.' The spirit of giving started with one seed, and grew into a collaborative effort at Afton." Pictured above: Afton fourth grade students with their kindergarten buddies.
